a couple’s shower challenge

Happy Wedding Bridal Party Challenge Wednesday!

Our good friends, Kam and Susan, and their daughter, Savannah {one of my bridesmaids} with boyfriend Andreas, threw Drew and I a wedding couple’s shower at their home last weekend. Now, this is was no ordinary shower that us ladies are used to. There was no tea sipping, opening up measuring spoons or typical Q & A games. It was a friendly, backyard and party atmosphere where you can slip on your cowboy boots, sip on your beverage from a mason jar and be fully entertained by the fun games in store {and the men were invited, too!}

The decor was an old western saloon. Bandanas were tucked under the flowers and placed into cowboy boots on the tables. The drinks were adorable mason jars wrapped with a rustic twine and heart attached to it. They did a fabulous job!

The games that our hosts created for us were without a doubt HILARIOUS! It was called Bridal Party Challenge – the groom and his groomsmen versus the bride and her bridesmaids. It was officially game time.

In the first challenge, Annie and Marco had to roll the large die on the grass until they rolled two 6’s or two 1’s. Unfortunately for the girls, Marco won. Groomsmen: 1  Bridesmaids: 0

The second challenge was a juggling competition. Chad and his girlfriend, Lindsay, were competing. I think Chad may have been a better juggler, but the crowd voted for Lindsay – sorry Chad! Groomsmen: 1  Bridesmaids:1

In the third challenge, Savannah and JT had to place an Oreo cookie on their forehead and skillfully move it into their mouths without using their hands. Savannah wrinkled her cheeks and nose while JT did squats to toss the Oreo in the air.

Savannah came out notorious! Groomsmen: 1  Bridesmaids: 2

The fourth challenge was perfect for Jessica and Jenna, who we all know are ‘girly’ girls and do not typically enjoy competitive activities. Except that they were paired against their husbands 🙂 It was the girls against the boys, each team seated across from their partner. One member of each team had to feed a bowl of whipped cream to their teammate. Whoever finished their bowl first won the round. The trick: everyone was blindfolded 🙂

The boys won by less than a second. Groomsmen: 2  Bridesmaids: 2

The final challenge for the bride and groom involved a paper plate, a flipper and a tortilla. Drew and I had each had a plate tied to the top of our heads and a flipper on one of our feet. We had to flip the tortilla from our flipper to our plate without touching it with our hands. Drew and I are equally competitive, and we were both in it to win it!

Let’s just say, I kicked his butt 🙂

The ‘A for effort’ {groom and groomsmen} team

Bridal Party Challenge. Unique. Fun. Completely entertaining. It was a perfect shower activity to get people involved and have an absolute blast! Our guests enjoyed watching and our wedding party enjoyed participating. Our Bridal Party Challenge extravagganza was something that we, as well as our guests, will never forget!

Thank you Kam, Susan, Savannah and Andreas for your inspirational creativity for our Tutto Bella brides!

lookin’ forward to the hangover

This week, the ladies are preparing outfits, decor ideas and cocktails for my Bachelorette party while the boys are preparing their livers for Drew’s Bachelor party in Vegas.

I can only imagine how crazy it’s going to get in Vegas… You would think that the fact that my dad is going might make me feel better… but at my brother-in-law’s Bachelor party, my dad “put the boys to bed” as he puts it. While the 25-year-olds were asleep, my dad was still in party mode and drinking at 7am, and proceeded to work out at 8am. I think it’s safe to say that they’re going to have one hell of a time!

Drew recalls one of his friends saying, “I just booked my plane ticket to Vegas. Now let’s make The Hangover look like a Disney movie.”

{sigh} … ohh great.

And so, it is only fitting that I share these party photos from Hostess for the Mostess, inspired from The Hangover. Absolutely hilarious and perfect for a Vegas-themed party.

Necessities from the groom for the trip:

Under Armor duffle bags from Drew

Royal Flush from Fleur de Lis {a necessity for the hotel bathroom for all the guys!}

Oh My Goodness! Down & Dirty Hand Sanitizer from Fleur de Lis {need I say why?}

Chaser {the over-the-counter hangover found at local drugstores}

Hasta la vista, boys! Enjoy Vegas!

As for my Bachelorette party tomorrow night, I will give you a clue: inspiration from a popular TV show, animal print & bling!

{Pictures to be posted soon!}

wood fabulous

Wood has been my inspiration for this week’s Wedding Wednesday. Drew and I recently sent out our own wood invitations, and I wanted to take it one-step further and find more inspiration for the ‘rustic’ bride. Wood is so natural, texturized and elegant at the same time. It can be used throughout your decor, tables, gifts or stationery. I hope you too can find inspiration in these photos.

Wood Stump: a unique way to display family photos

Wood Wagon: adorable for your little flower girl or ring bearer to ride in

Wood Signage: fun details to use for directing guests or chair hangers

Wood Stands: use for your cake, place cards or at the bar

Wood Gift Box: perfect to hold your gifts

Wood Candles: intimate, rustic and romantic all at once

Wood Tables: a bold statement

Wood Stationery: for your invitation, program, place cards, table numbers or dinner menu

(we got our wood invites at Fleur de Lis – shown below)

going clean

My fabulous cousin and aunt have been doing this cleanse called “Clean” since April. They can’t say enough things about it – they look great, they feel wonderful and they’ve each lost 30 pounds! Since my wedding is coming up in a few months, I wanted to hop on-board, too! Now, I’m not one who goes on diets to lose weight (the gluten-free diet is difficult enough!), but I thought that doing a cleanse might help be lost that difficult ten pounds just before my wedding. Plus, my cousin and aunt were continuing the Clean lifestyle and my mom was going to start with me. I had my own personal support team to help me 🙂

About a month ago, I picked up Clean by Alejandro Junger, MD from Barnes & Noble and immediately stuck my nose in. I was absolutely fascinated by this book! It is truly disturbing when you stop and think about how many toxins are inside our body from the air we breathe, the place we live, the cosmetics we use and the food we eat. There are a lot of unnecessary toxins that we feed into our body that harm us. When it comes to food, we can certainly control those toxins.

In the book, Alejandro describes exactly how Clean works. Although there is a lot to it, the #1 rule is to follow this simple formula: Eat two liquid meals and one solid meal per day (the solid meal to be eaten at lunchtime). Snacks in between are allowed, but you must keep a 12-hour window from your last meal until your breakfast the next morning in order for your body to cleanse.

After completing Clean, I feel healthier, my skin is brighter and I’ve lost weight! No more stomach aches, bloating, fatigue or headaches. Clean is a cleanse that makes perfect sense and is easy to do. Only 21 days and you’re clean!

I wanted to share my all-time favorite recipe from Clean: Quinoa Salad with chicken and Mixed Greens (p.254 in Clean). It’s refreshing, delicious, healthy, and super easy to make. Double the recipe and eat it for your lunch all week! You’re going to love it 🙂

Ingredients:

2 cups cooked and cooled quinoa

4 (4-ounce chicken breasts, grilled or steamed and thinly sliced)

1 tablespoon chopped parsley

1/4 cup currants

1/4 chopped raw almonds

1/2 cup diced carrots

1/4 cup chopped mint

1/4 cup scallions, cut thinly diagonally

1/4 cup chopped parsley

1/4 cup lime

1 teaspoon agave nectar

1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 cup olive oil

4 cups salad greens tossed with 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions:

1. Steam chicken breast.

2. Put all ingredients except chicken and salad greens in a bowl. Toss together with quinoa. Adjust seasoning to taste.

3. Mound half quinoa salad on each plate

4. Make a bed of salad greens next to quinoa and place the sliced chicken on top.

mmmm… delicious!

{currants not photographed}

Recommendations:

Make it your own. I love currants, so I use about 3/4 cup currants in the mix (even though I was in the middle of making it last night and realized that I was out of currants!) Add a few more almonds if you enjoy a ‘crunch’. I suggest using less than 1/2 cup olive oil – I don’t think 1/2 cup is necessary because the mix will get soggy. Personally, I enjoy Quioa Salad without the chicken or salad greens because I love the taste of quinoa so much. Be creative!

If you’re looking to cleanse your body from toxins, lose a few pounds and feel healthy and energized, try going Clean! Visit their site and check out all of the resources that they provide (grocery list, elimination diet foods, daily routines, ect). Happy cooking and Cleaning!

I think this Alejandro guy is a genius 🙂

add a little sparkle

Happy Wedding Wednesday!

Red. White. Blue. One of my all-time favorite times of the year. This week I was inspired by the 4th of July and a wedding from Style Me Pretty that beautifully carried our nation’s colors throughout the decor. What a fun theme for a summer wedding!

My new obsession for weddings: FIREWORKS!

I am SO in love with wedding photos with guests sending-off the newlyweds with fireworks. The fireworkds literally light up the party, they are exciting for guests and they are a fun, creative way to end the night as bride and groom. And, the photos are undeniably awesome. I am definitely obsessed!

Also a romantic prop for engagement sessions:

Go ahead, add a little ‘sparkle’ to your wedding day 🙂

A few ideas for buying fireworks online…

Koyal Wholesale has 20 inch sparklers in bulk for a reasonable price.

BuySparklers.com has a variety of sparklers that come in ‘wedding’ packaging and are  a variety of prices and styles.

Wholesale Event Solutions sells 10 inch sparklers for 99 cents.
