a little place called durango

Ok so I have to start off with an apology. It is Fashion Friday and I am not posting about fashion today! (I promise to be back on track next week!) Shame shame!

I am in Durango this weekend with my husband, golden retriever, parents, sister and my niece and nephew for a wedding. I am in awe by the beauty of this place. I hope to post this special wedding with details in an upcoming post (congrats to my best childhood friend Stephanie & her fiancé Dave!).

For this of you who have never been to Colorado, or even better, lived here, this state holds beauty in landscape that cannot be explained … if you have not visited, you should someday in your lifetime. Have a happy weekend! We’ll be back on posting track Monday … 🙂

walk down the aisle

Happy Fashion Friday!

So being the shoe-aholic that I am, and this being the week my sister is getting married, I found it appropriate for a wedding shoe post!

When I was looking for wedding shoes, I found myself going towards the unconventional – not the white, “typical” wedding shoes that I seemed to find everywhere (not that there is anything wrong with typical wedding shoes). I went for 2 pairs of shoes – 1 new (Valentino) for my new dress, and the other I had in my closet (Bakers) that I wore with my grandmother’s dress. My black and white, winter, old-fashioned wedding lended itself to just that for shoes – black and white, winter, old fashioned.

I say that if you want to wear blue shoes on your wedding day (for your “something blue”) … do it! If you want beautiful Cinderella sparkly shoes … do it! I have been seeing some unique wedding shoes {see the pink pumps below} perfect for a garden wedding. It is your day and you need to feel unique and special in your dress, shoes, and skin.

There are a couple shoes from Nordstrom that I love for a wedding dress! Whether your wedding is summer, spring, fall, or winter – you can find a shoe that fits your wedding day, dress, and personality. Keep looking. I know it can be tiring, but stick in there! You found your soul mate … now find your sole mate 🙂

OH … and A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my hubby William today 🙂 … you are still the love of my life after our first date, today, 10 years ago.

party on the porch

Party on the Porch = fun party for a good cause! Hello, my name is Jenna and I have Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. I also have amazing support from my friends and family, and that is why I am who I am today suffering from these diseases. Sorry to get personal … but this is very close to my heart …

Every year, I plan to host a party with my good friends Amanda and Lee for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. Even writing this short post, I am getting teary eyed with emotion. It is still very hard for me to accept, live with, and suffer with. 1 out of 10 people with Crohn’s and/or Colitis will be diagnosed with Colon Cancer – which is why I am making an effort to be active in finding a cure – not only for me, but for all the children and other adults suffering from these obscure, mysterious diseases. This event is a way to get beloved friends and family together, but more importantly, we are trying to raise awareness (and hopefully a cure in the future) for these awful Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). Thanks to everyone’s support for the party this year: Fleur de Lis (a paperie), Raw Perspective Photography (Kristopher Lewis), Justin Donovan Band, The Ruffly Rose, 3o3 Magazine, Denise Plante, and all our friends and family who came out to support this special cause … THANK YOU! I look forward to next year’s Party on the Porch 🙂

Please contact Jenna at Fleur de Lis for more information on donating, sponsorship opportunities for 2012, and more information on the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and Crohn’s and Colitis Diseases. Thanks to all our loved ones for attending this year, and wearing your white … we hope to see you next year!

white out

Happy Fashion Friday!

In honor of my annual “Party on the Porch” I am hosting tonight with my dear friends (white attire requested, benefitting the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America) … today’s fashion Friday is about fabulous white summer outfits (rocked by men and women)!

I admit, I could not wait until memorial day weekend so that I could go out and wear more white! I know that I am not alone when I see fashionable women everyday wear their white jeans with great summer tops and great nude summer pumps. I just love wearing white – it looks so clean, so put together and so fresh. Either splash your outfit with white by wearing a  fashionable fedora hat, pumps, or clutch purse … or rock a white dress or white jeans with a white top for a full white outfit. If you rock an all-white outfit, I highly recommend a bright colorful clutch or pumps – so cute!

To shop for affordable outfits, I’ve seen really cute white dresses at J. Crew, white tops at Nordstrom, and cute white jeans at Urban Outfitters and Gap. Great, more expensive designer brands for bags, shoes and accessories would be Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Coach and L.A.M.B.

If you would like to donate to The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, please contact Jenna at Fleur de Lis or go to www.ccfa.org. Thank you for all the people coming out to support the foundation by attending our annual Party on the Porch tonight!

skinny dipping, i mean drinking

Here’s the skinny … we love our cocktails, but not all the sugary, empty calories. We can’t help but have one (or a few) cocktails on a holiday like the 4th of July, so pick up this delicious alcoholic beverage while barbequing, sitting pool side, or watching gorgeous fireworks this year to celebrate our wonderful nation’s independence.

For those of you who know me and my sisters, we are completely obsessed with The Real Housewives. You who have not heard of the Real Housewives series have been living under a rock, seriously! Totally hilarious and entertaining – love it. Bethenny Frankel, from The Real Housewives of New York City, created a delicious, low calorie margarita called Skinnygirl Margarita. All natural ingredients, seriously low in calories, and so delicious! You can find in most liquor stores around the nation – so, next time you and your ladies want a cocktail without the guilt, pick up Skinnygirl Margarita! Blend it or pour on the rocks, with or without salt, and enjoy …

* Happy 4th of July! *
