another anniversary to note

I’ve been celebrating another anniversary this past week…a special one that comes once a year…the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Next season on sale NOW. Gotta love that, especially at a place like Nordstrom where the word “sale” does not often appear.

I’m a total Nordy’s girl, so I’ve been scoping out the sale online and in the stores. Here’s the {reasonable} things I’ve been eyeing. The {unreasonable…or in other words, way out of my budget} items is a whole different post, but believe me, I have some noted.

If you haven’t already been, make yourself a hot date at Nordy’s and go NOW. You deserve it. Items will go back to their original prices August 1.

Happy shopping.

something for the host{ess}

We all love to bring that perfect little something to say thank you for being such a lovely host and/or hostess. Well, here are a few host/hostess gifts we think are just great.

Jodi just bought our aunts and grandma pairs of Toms shoes {in one of her wedding accent colors} to show her gratitude for the nice bridal lunch they hosted for her upcoming wedding. So comfortable and cute.

Lisa at With Style and Grace has a brilliant idea for “morning after” hostess gifts – all the ingredients and recipes for a Bloody Mary and Mimosa cocktail –  beautifully presented, of course. Love it.

Martha Stewart Living has a fun and creative game{s} on gift. Games are a perfect gift for the host and/or hostess…and the newly married couple with no money that need to be spending most nights in throughout the week to save their pennies.

Martha also came through with the simple, yet great, idea of a bar in a box.

Get some funny cocktail napkins at Fleur de Lis {a paperie}.

Who doesn’t love a personalized gift? Monogrammed stationery from Fleur de Lis would be oh so thoughtful.

Buy the reader in your life a PSA Essential stamp {also available at Fleur de Lis} that he or she can stamp From the library of… inside the cover of all his/her books.
Or, give the host and/or hostess a PSA Essential stamp with his/her address.

chalkboard fun

I am fabulous
I am fabulous
I am fabulous

Much better than the notes we use to write on the chalkboard during detention after misbehaving in school

I will not pass love notes during class
I will not pass love notes during class
I will not pass love notes during class

…don’t you agree?

Now that you’re out of school and not getting into classroom trouble, have some chalkboard fun!

You can find Chalkboard paint in a bucket or in a spray can at your local home improvement store, such as Home Depot, and don’t feel limited to use just black. Hudson Paint offers a rainbow of chalk paint colors. And, get even fancier and more creative with must-have chalk ink {colorful chalk in a pen form}.

Chalkboard Wall with Frames: I love this office space designed by The Adventure of Ordy and Joon.

Chalkboard Label Glasses: Label your drinks with your own chalkboard stickers or purchase these glasses from Pier1

Chalkboard Wall: Three Men and a Lady created a perfect place to jot down notes for the whole family to see in her entry with a chalkboard wall.

Chalkboard Pots: Remember what herbs you planted with this easy-to-do chalkboard potted label by Martha Stewart Living.

Chalk Wall Calendar: Stay organized with this calendar from The Martha Stewart Show.

Chalkboard Globe: Mark all the places you’ve visited or let your children learn their geography with this great globe idea from Design Sponge.

Chalkboard Window Pane: Repurpose an old window pane with chalkboard paint with these tips by Sweet Home.

Chalkboard Place Cards: Make sure your guests know their seat with these adorable place cards at Blue Pearls etsy shop.

Chalkboard Dresser: Remember which drawer your pants, socks and underwear are in with this cute idea from HGTV.

OK, two more adorable projects I just have to share…

Chris at Celebrations at Home has an easy DIY chalk project you can do for a fabulous backdrop at a party.

Finally, chalkboard chargers. You can always customize with guest names and kids will love it too. Tatertots and Jello has the how-to you can follow here.

bugalicious fun

My sweet babies turned 1-year-old and 3-years-old last week. This year’s party theme…bugs. Caterpillars, ants and worms, and ladybugs for our little lady.

I think it’s just the cute decor possibilities that lured me into throwing a bug party because I am the type to scream and panic when I see bugs, and the thought of anything crawling on me gives me the creeps. But, it was a really fun party for the kids. We did it on a budget this year, so although I would’ve liked to do a lot more, the credit card will thank me at the end of this month. 🙂

We served brunch – egg casserole, blueberry coffee cake, fruit skewers, a delicious french toast casserole and a yogurt bar along with a milk and juice {and champagne for mimosa’s for the adults} bar.

We served Potted Chocolate Mint Pudding with gummy worms in 1/2 pint mason jars and “bug candy” for dessert.

I found a frame with wire in the middle, and used it as a prop for photos on the yogurt bar. Jameson, ages 1, 2 and 3 were on display, and for Gabriella, months 1 through 12. I used numbered labels made by Jenna at Fleur de Lis, and used a hot glue gun to adhere them to clothes pins.

I tried the crepe paper weave, and it was super easy and cheap – 2 rolls of crepe paper for 97 cents each. Steal!

Caterpillars, made of balloons, made appearances throughout the inside and outside of the house.

Fleur de Lis designed all the paper products for the party including the adorable invite, water bottle labels, tags and toppers.

We bought bug catchers from Michaels for each toddler and found bug-catching tools to place inside. Before everyone arrived, we hid candy and big fake bugs {from Walmart} in the backyard, so once we were ready, the kids were off on a bug hunting adventure.

Once they caught all the fake bugs, we released 2,000 live lady bugs {bought from O’Toole’s Garden Center} they caught in their catchers too.

Exciting news about all the cute paper products for this party – you can customize and purchase for your little ones at Fleur de Lis in Denver. If you don’t live in Denver, you can order through our etsy store here. All the stationery for this party is available for purchase. yay!

4 years {post i do}

It’s my first Wedding Wednesday post and I think it’s only appropriate that I post my own wedding…especially since my 4 year wedding anniversary is tomorrow, July 14.

4 years, a mortgage {for a beautiful home my hubby built}, 2 babies…and even more in love! Tommy is the love of my life and we are blessed to have found each other more than 12 years ago in high school.

We said I do in front of family and friends at the quaint and beautiful Beaver Creek Chapel, then celebrated at Red Sky Ranch. We both have such fond memories of our wedding day. Looking back at these pictures has been fun for me, so I hope you enjoy them too.

Ti Amo, Tommy.

The most emotional moment for me was walking down the aisle with my dad…I still get teary-eyed just thinking about it.

Wood postcards served as escort cards to tables, which were named after our favorite Italian and Irish cities.

Maybe I should wear my Monique Lhuillier wedding dress Thursday…post toddler swimming lessons and playdates? I should be able to feel like a princess in an expensive designer dress every once in a while, right? 🙂 The fact that it would still fit would be a reason to celebrate too.
