Kids Boredum Buster: DIY Salad Spinner Art

diy salad spinner art - kids craft

Well, it looks like some of us may or may not be home with the kids again this fall due to COVID-19. So, we need to start pinning and saving art ideas in case we’re the art teacher this year. This DIY salad spinner art is fun for kids of all ages, so we definitely plan to re-visit this art project again this fall and winter. The best part is if you use washable paint, it can entertain the kids for hours, and then you still use it to clean lettuce for dinner. Mom win!

Summer Recipe: Fresh Corn Salad

summer corn salad

We daydream about good thymes in the garden every summer. 🙂 Although we haven’t mastered many garden skills yet, we’re trying. Jenna has a strong showing of tomatoes and zucchini’s most summers. Jessica has had moderate success with spinach, herbs and radishes. Oh, and mint has multiplied everywhere. We are happy to report this year’s garden is growing, and fingers crossed we produce some actual food for our families, and the animals don’t grub on it all before we do.

With gardens, come more garden salads, and entertaining in the backyard. We hope to share more recipes with you, and heres’s the first one.

New Craft We Love – DIY Tie-Dye Coffee Filter Art

diy coffee filter art for kids-tie dye butterfly

Coffee filters don’t just come to the rescue every morning as you make your cup (or two, or three) of coffee. They can be the inspiration for DIY art projects, too. We made beautiful DIY butterflies with tie-dye coffee filters. We all loved this project – literally it was fun for my 7-year-old all to my 30-something self (and all the ages in-between). It’s so therapeutic to color various patterns and squiggles on the filters, and then watch it magically create a tie-dye pattern with water.

Wake Up With Dalgona Coffee At Home

dalgona whipped coffee at home during COVID19

Dalgona whipped coffee, a coffee drink that originated in South Korea, has gone viral on social media during the COVID-19 pandemic.  We miss visiting our favorite local coffee shops, and sipping frothy lattes. So much so, we decided to whip up our first cup of dalgona coffee. The verdict? It’s delicious, and worth all the hype!  Before stay-at-home orders, dalgona whipped coffee was foreign to us. Now, it’s a household staple.

The cup of creamy coffee goodness looks like an up-side down cappuccino with its rich white and caramel tones, tastes like a coffee milkshake, and has the dreamy peaks and fluffiness of heavy whipped cream on a piece of homemade pie! Get your forearm ready for a quick whisk workout! No fancy machine needed, and your grocery store is likely to have the three key ingredients in stock (if you don’t already have at home), including milk, instant coffee, sugar. The boiling water part can definitely be accomplished at home!

Follow this quick and easy tutorial we shared on Momtastic so you can learn how to wake up with dalgona whipped coffee at home, too!
