DIY Coffee Ring Coasters

coffee-stain-coasters-yellow-white-black-mug-no-filter-bold-brew

We understand why coasters are necessary, and we love them just like every other mom out there that doesn’t want a coffee ring stain on her table. But, sometimes the imperfection of a table {the dings, scratches, paint and coffee ring stains} give it character. They tell a story of the lives and memories that lived there.

It’s difficult to do, but perhaps it’s better to embrace the mess and save ourselves the exhaustion of always wanting it to look perfect?! Yes, embrace the imperfection!

Maybe, it’s better to beat the coffee ring stain to the table with DIY coffee ring stain coasters?! Think about it – it’s the easiest stain to remove because you just have to put them away in a drawer. Plus, they are imperfect right from the start so no need to worry about messing them up.

Our new coasters have inspired us to live according to our coasters. Every day we are going to rise & grind. We have always been and will always be a bold brew {after all, we are Sicilian}. We are not going to hide or cover-up the truth, so it’s a no filter zone here. And, finally, everywhere we go, people will know one of the j. sisters will have been there. Yes, we will leave our mark.

Tell us {email, hello@jsorelle.com or instagram, @jsorelle3} what your imperfect coffee stain coasters would say to inspire you throughout the day. And, of course, read below to learn how to make them.

Materials:

Directions:

Paint your coasters the color of your choice. We went with a happy, bright yellow and chose to make a random color-block pattern.

Design your coasters, the coffee stain and words in the Silhouette software. We chose to play off fun and strong coffee phrases such as: no filter. bold brew. leave your mark. rise & grind.

Follow the printing direction on the vinyl packaging. Once it’s cut, remove the excess vinyl around the phrase and coffee stain.

Place washi tape {or vinyl transfer paper if you have} over the design.

Remove the tape in one piece, and the design of your coaster should stick to it.

bold-brew-black-vinyl

Place the washi tape and vinyl down on the coaster where you want it to be. Use a straight edge to remove any bubbles.

Pull each piece of tape up, one by one, and the vinyl should stick to the coaster.

Press felt pads on all four corners on the bottom of the tile.

Repeat the steps for all four coasters.

Giraffe Baby Shower

We made a trip to the zoo last week, and the giraffe’s were a favorite among our kids. The tall beauties have been loved by Jessica’s son for a long time. Thanks to Sylvia Strauss of Special Events and photographer Finishing Touch Roelien Visser, now we know they can be the inspiration behind a pretty baby shower, too.

Sylvia was inspired by the blue and yellow color of the striped flower pots on the table. Of course we love the DIY details, such as the wool letters and the spray painted plastic animals.

DIY Clay Marbled Leaf-Shaped Ring Bowls

The OCD in us cringes when our kids combine different colors of play dough into one large ball. It’s an internal battle. So, instead of fighting the battle to keep the yellow with the yellow, the green with the green and the orange with the orange, we are going to combine fall-toned oven bake clay together, for a fall marbled effect project. So, they can mix and combine the clay to their hearts and hands content. They loved it…and these mama’s were happy, too.

DIY Clay Marbled Leaf Ring Bowls

Materials:

  • Oven Bake Clay, white, red, yellow and green {for this project we stuck with fall colors}
  • Leaf cut outs
  • X-acto knife
  • Rolling pin
  • Mini, oven-safe bowls

Directions:

Break the oven bake clay into small  pieces. They need to be about the size of a cherry tomato, or a bit larger. Then, roll each color out into long ‘worms’

red-yellow-green-clay-marbled-leaf-ring-bowls-fall-diy

Starting with two, twist the colors together. Then, one by one, add another ‘worm’ to the twist until all colors are twisted together. Pull the colorful twist tighter, elongating it gently as you twist and pull.

Fold the long, twisted strand in half. Roll it into a ball, then as we so non-eloquently told our kids, squish, then squish from another angle, and squish the ball a couple more times to mix the colors. Be sure not to over mix or everything will start to appear brown.

On wax paper, press the ball flat like a pancake, then with a rolling pin, roll it out into a nice circle.

Place the leaf cut out on top, and with the X-acto knife, cut around the edges.

Gently press the leaf into a small oven-safe bowl so it, too, can take the shape of a bowl in the oven. Make sure to use a shallow bowl, so the leaf retains the shape of a leaf.

Bake according to package directions.

Glaze {optional} the DIY marbled leaf-shaped bowls and set out for fall decor.

A Pop of Color with Wayfair

front-porch-pop-of-color-wayfair-red-yellow-sunflower

When we see sunflowers, we think about Tuscany. When we think about Tuscany, we think happy thoughts. When we think happy thoughts, we want to celebrate it with a glass of vino. When we have a glass of vino, we want a pretty space to sip it in. When we need a pretty space to sip it in, Wayfair comes to the rescue with their #PopOfColor campaign.

Jessica’s favorite place to sip wine in the summer is her front porch, so she chose to add a much-needed pop of color and sunflowers to her front entry space. It looked pretty sad and dull before the pop of vibrant red and yellow splashed the rustic space.

Now thanks to Wayfair, it’s an inviting space to welcome guests, watch the kids play, sit and read a book {let’s get serious – she will be reading O Magazine} and sip water {or vino}.

The new, bright green Hello Doormat is hard to miss, plus it’s direct and to-the-point. Hello, friends!

sunflower-red-table-front-porch-yellow-pillow-wayfair-hello-welcome-mat

The red Franklin Butler Accent Table caught Jessica’s eye immediately. She has always had a weakness for red, and lately a fondness for the mountain modern look. The table is indoor/outdoor, so when the warm summer months are over, the table will make its way inside.

She couldn’t resist a touch of glam with the Global Views Nugget Bud Vase because, well, everyone needs a touch of metallic glam.

sunflower-red-table-front-porch-yellow-pillow-wayfair

The rocking chair is from Jessica’s in-laws. Though a DIY paint job was in the original plan for a big pop of yellow color on the porch, a yellow pillow does the job in less than 1/4 the time, and makes for a much happier husband. With so many yellow pillows to choose from at Wayfair, all you have to do is pick your yellow. 1. Sunbrella Vibrant Yellow. 2. Forget the Tuscany vibe for a minute, this African giraffe pillow makes us smile. 3. Blazing Needle gets the yellow just right.

Here’s the official before and after shot.

If you are anything like us, once a #PopOfColor happens in one space, it tends to have a domino effect into other areas of the home. Look out Wayfair, our homes are neutral in color and in need of a serious POP. In the meantime, we’ll enjoy the front porch.

 j. sorelle received a gift card to purchase a #PopOfColor for this post, however we love Wayfair, even if they didn’t send us any form of payment, and all opinions are ours, we promise.

How to Create a Chalkboard Wall

chalkboard-wall-kids-room-diy-chalk-yellow-grey-room

We saw a glimpse of Amy’s chalkboard wall in her kids room while looking through beautiful photos by the talented Sally Mae. We loved the wood nightstand, the bright yellow bedding, the antler hung on the wall…and of course, the chalkboard wall.

Amy was so kind to share how she created the wall, where she found the adorable accessories and also 10 very good reasons why every child should have a chalkboard wall {or board} in their room. Jessica shared it on Momtastic.
