favorite things continued…

We’re not done yet…our magic number for this year was 12 for the 12 Days of Christmas, so here’s the rest of our Favorite’s List.

7. Logitech iPad, Logitech or Best Buy – makes typing e-mails and documents on the iPad SO much easier. {$99}
8. Norwex Cleaning  Supplies – I know, its ridiculous that we have a cleaning product in here, and believe me, none of us enjoy cleaning, but its a fact of life and its so important to use non-toxic cleaning supplies for our health, our children’s health and our environment. Plus, these products make it so easy!
9. Stella & Dot Light BraceletFRIENDSHIP TIES, Sparkle From the Light Within {$19} – our friend and fave Stella and Dot stylist, Christine Morris, may be hooking you up with this lovely bracelet if you’re nice, not naughty, and read our blog tomorrow for a giveaway opportunity.
10. MukLuk Slippers, Target {$44} – love this style too.
11. Vino2Go, The Wine Sippy Cup – genius and everyone needs one of these!
12. Santa Poo, Ho Ho Ho, Oh No, Gotta Go, Poo-Pourri – we love all Poo-Pourri products and love that they actually work, but this is just too fun for the holidays.

Vegetarian Appetizer Recipe

This is one of my favorite appetizers, and its moderately healthy with the raw veggies. Plus, its colorful and absolutely delicious. We recently had a family gathering, so transformed an ordinary veggie pizza into a Veggie Christmas Tree in celebration of the holiday season.

You should add this to your list of apps this holiday season…seriously, so good!

Veggie Christmas Pizza
recipe adapted from my mom

Ingredients
1 8 oz. package of refrigerated Crescent Rolls
8 oz. cream cheese softened
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 tsp dry dill weed
1 tsp dry minced onion
2 cups finely chopped veggies {to keep in line with holiday colors, we used broccoli, cauliflower, red bell pepper and thin carrot sticks}
1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped green onions

How-To
Spread Crescent Roll dough on ungreased cooking sheet
Press seams together
Bake at 400 degrees for approximately 10 minutes {watch it so it doesn’t get too brown…you want it golden brown}
Blend cream cheese, mayonnaise, dill weed and minced onion in a medium bowl
Once crust is done, let cool
Spread the cream cheese blend on the cooled crust
Use a knife to cut the ‘pizza’ into a large triangle tree, and use ‘unused tree parts’ for gifts and a tree trunk…and don’t forget to use a star cookie cutter for the tree on top

Arrange ‘tree’ and ‘tree accessories’ on a platter.

Decorate with veggies. You can even get creative adding ‘bows’ and ‘ribbon’ to the gifts. So fun!

Chill in refrigerator until ready to serve
Remember to cut the tree into pieces prior to serving so everyone can get a piece. You can ‘re-piece’ or place the small pieces together into the shape of the tree.
NOTE: Make 2 veggie pizzas because it will be gone in 2 minutes.

Enjoy.

DIY Gratitude Journal

The list of things and people I am grateful for is quite lengthy. I have lived a very blessed life with ample opportunities and good, wonderful people by my side. Most days I remain very optimistic and grateful for all that I have been given, but I have bad days too, and forget to take the time to think about all that is good in my life. One way to really focus on the positive instead of the negative is to start a gratitude journal. It’s simple – find something you are appreciative or grateful for everyday – just one thing, and soon you will begin to feel a shift in your thinking. You will develop a new perspective on life, and begin to find more joy and the beauty in all things and people around you.

So, on this holiday of Thanksgiving, where we take the time {hopefully} to sit and reflect on what and who we are grateful for, spread the gift of gratitude to your friends and family.

A gratitude journal would make for a lovely hostess gift, and if you’re hosting, it is a great place card or favor. You can buy beautiful journals, or if you want to keep things simple and on budget, buy a small hardbound book or journal. Wrap it old-school style {the way you use to cover your school books} with Kraft paper, add a library card due date ‘gratitude’ label with the date of this year’s Thanksgiving and sign your name at the bottom. It really is the gift that keeps on giving. Even if you don’t have the means to buy a gratitude journal for others this year, make it a point to start one for yourself.

If you forgot how to cover a book, here’s a few tips that may ‘spark’ a memory from your school days…

Cut Kraft paper as large as the book, plus an additional 2 inches on the top, bottom and 3-4 inches on the side. Place book on the paper, and fold the top and bottom of the Kraft paper, so it is equally aligned with the top and bottom of the book.

Place the book on top of the folds, open the book and push the cover the book through the Kraft paper sleeve openings on the side.
Repeat with the back of the book.

Using Word or Illustrator, create a gratitude journal label, print and tape to the cover of the book…or you can even use a sharpie to write ‘gratitude journal’ on the cover.
Tie a bow with twine and voila.
