a day of remembrance

Memorial-Day

I adore the red, white and blue decor people put out in honor of today’s national holiday, preparing the grill for a BBQ with family and friends, and having my hubby home from work to spend the day playing with us…but all too often we forget (myself included) about the true meaning of today.

So, today’s post is simply a reminder to pause, pray for and remember the men and women who have died in our nation’s service, and to thank the men and women who served our country in the past and those who continue to serve our country today, tomorrow and everyday after to protect our freedom.

Wars are being fought right now by America’s finest, thousands of miles away. The brave soldiers are just like you and me – they are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, friends, neighbors, spouses and daughters and sons. Their families back at home are praying for their safe return. May God bless them and their families today and always. Their commitment and unwavering sacrifice to keep our lives safe is honorable, noble and will never be forgotten.

To those lives who were lost that we remember and honor today, we are forever grateful for your ultimate sacrifice and we will continue to proudly wave the red, white and blue.

Happy Memorial Day.

Rainbow Party Ideas

I had several inspirations for this post today – the rainy weather today, listening to Josh Groban and Patti LaBelle sing Somewhere over the Rainbow on Oprah’s Finale show of surprises and my craving for colorful cupcakes.

It doesn’t need to be St. Patrick’s day everyday (although my hubby would like it to be) for a rainbow celebration – you can plan a fun rainbow birthday party for your kids, bring the color inspiration into your wedding palette, use as home decor or surprise your family on a cold winter (or warm summer) day with a colorful breakfast. Now just hoping you find that pot of gold at the end of your rainbow.

mason love

Drink from it. Paint it. Store personal items in it. Decorate with it. Hang it. With the it being a mason jar, the uses are endless.

The simple, antique and easy-on-the-credit-card mason jar can inspire in the home or at an event. I just can’t get enough of it

turning ordinary objects into extraordinary decor

I’m always amazed by the DIY projects that people come up with…and with everyday items that I would least expect! Take, for instance a suitcase, coffee filter, PVC pipe, tea cup, tree stump and BBQ Bamboo Skewer. All great everyday items, but add a little creativity…and voila, extraordinary decor!

Coffee Filter Lampshade, Northwest Hospitality

PVC Pipe Mirror, Thrifty and Cheap (thanks Tatertots and Jello for sharing it)

Tea Cup Clock, Vintage Revivals

BBQ Skewer Sunburst Mirror, Three Men and a Lady
