DIY Travel Mug for Your Favorite Teacher

We run out the door every morning with a coffee in hand, so a good travel mug is a worthy investment. Teachers who choose to nurture, teach and discipline our children on a daily basis also deserve a good travel mug. Whether its tea or coffee, we want to make sure our teachers are fueled throughout the day with a memorable mug in hand. In the summer, when they are not in the classroom, they will be reminded of the difference they made in our children’s lives.

Instead of, “You taught me a lot,” we played with fun coffee lingo and turned it into, “You taught me a latte.”

Materials:

Mug
Vinyl
Silhouette America cutting machine
gift card
painter’s tape

Directions:

Design and print your words on Silhouette software and print according to package instructions.

Place painter’s tape over the design, and pull it up. The words should now be on the tape.

Press the tape {with the words} onto the mug and use a straight-edge to smooth out any bubbles.

Remove the tape, strip by strip, to reveal your design.

Insert a gift card to Starbucks or a local coffee shop and voila.

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

If your mom is like ours, there’s no way to thank her for all she’s done. No plant, pair of shoes or purse is grand enough to say thank you. Being a mom can feel like a thankless job, but it’s worth every bit of the blood, sweat and tears we put into it. And, every hug, kiss and, “I love you” we receive is really all the thanks we need to get through the day. Showing mom a little extra love on Mother’s Day helps too!

The thoughtful DIY gifts and cards are meaningful and worth the time to do. So, in addition to a sweet, sentimental gift, we’ve gathered up some of our favorite gifts to spoil mom a little more this Mother’s Day.

DIY Sleep In Pillow Case

Let’s get real – sleep went out the window when we became moms, and we’re not convinced it ever comes back. Our children were not born good sleepers, they don’t know the meaning of sleeping in {no matter how late we keep them up}, and even when they are teenagers and we won’t be able to wake them up, we will be up late waiting for them to come in {and lose sleep over our worries about where they may be or what they may be doing}.

Just one day a year, it would be so lovely to sleep in. Not wake up at 7 a.m., then go back to bed for another hour. Like, really sleep in where we lose track of time. Remember those days?

Don’t get us wrong, we love motherhood, and feel incredibly grateful for every day on this earth we get to wake up to our beautiful children. It’s a gift, a priceless treasure. But, just one day of extra zzz’s would be so amazing.

Mother’s Day seems fitting for such an occasion. We made a pillowcase so everyone will know what we have in mind when we lay our pretty little heads down on Mother’s Day Eve.

When our DIY Sleep In pillowcase is on the bed, don’t even think about waking us up, ok?! Even if our family misses the memo, at least we can dream about sleeping in. We were inspired to create the pillowcase after this mirror at West Elm caught our eye. We love it, just like we love everything in West Elm stores.

If you’re looking for a cheap, fun and last-minute gift this Mother’s Day, this is it. Anyone can do it with just a few supplies.

Materials:

white pillowcase
Stained Sharpie fabric marker, Office Depot
pencil
pillow

Directions:

Pencil in your design, or trace a design. We styled our pillowcase just like the West Elm mirror.

Trace your pencil marks with the Stained fabric marker, and then color in.

Insert a pillow in the pillowcase. Set it on your bed and sleep in.

DIY Coffee Ring Coasters

We understand why coasters are necessary, and we love them just like every other mom out there that doesn’t want a coffee ring stain on her table. But, sometimes the imperfection of a table {the dings, scratches, paint and coffee ring stains} give it character. They tell a story of the lives and memories that lived there.

It’s difficult to do, but perhaps it’s better to embrace the mess and save ourselves the exhaustion of always wanting it to look perfect?! Yes, embrace the imperfection!

Maybe, it’s better to beat the coffee ring stain to the table with DIY coffee ring stain coasters?! Think about it – it’s the easiest stain to remove because you just have to put them away in a drawer. Plus, they are imperfect right from the start so no need to worry about messing them up.

Our new coasters have inspired us to live according to our coasters. Every day we are going to rise & grind. We have always been and will always be a bold brew {after all, we are Sicilian}. We are not going to hide or cover-up the truth, so it’s a no filter zone here. And, finally, everywhere we go, people will know one of the j. sisters will have been there. Yes, we will leave our mark.

Materials:

4×4 coasters, Home Depot
Silhouette America cutting machine
Silhouette America vinyl
Yellow spray paint, Home Depot
Painter’s tape and Washi tape
Felt pads

Directions:

Paint your coasters the color of your choice. We went with a happy, bright yellow and chose to make a random color-block pattern.

Design your coasters, the coffee stain and words in the Silhouette software. We chose to play off fun and strong coffee phrases such as: no filter. bold brew. leave your mark. rise & grind.

Follow the printing direction on the vinyl packaging. Once it’s cut, remove the excess vinyl around the phrase and coffee stain.

Place washi tape {or vinyl transfer paper if you have} over the design.

Remove the tape in one piece, and the design of your coaster should stick to it.

Place the washi tape and vinyl down on the coaster where you want it to be. Use a straight edge to remove any bubbles.

Pull each piece of tape up, one by one, and the vinyl should stick to the coaster.

Press felt pads on all four corners on the bottom of the tile.

Repeat the steps for all four coasters.

Drink, cheers and make all the coffee ring stains you want.

Good Vibes

We believe that what you put out into the world, you get back.

If you think and radiate happiness and good thoughts, it invites goodness and positivity into your life.

When a good friend, or a stranger in line at the grocery store exudes joy and good energy a magical thing that happens – he/she lifts our spirits. Good vibes just feel good. It feels good to give them, and it feels good to be the recipient of them. Plus, good energy is contagious, so we have the power to shift the vibrations of a room. It’s an invisible force, but it is felt, and can also be brought to life by smiles, laughter and acts of kindness.

We are going to make a conscious effort to practice good energy in our own lives, and set positive intentions. We are going to be responsible for the energy we bring into a room. In fact, Jessica’s daughter is literally going to step into the room with good vibes because we made her DIY good vibes shoes. And, she is going to rock them!

Materials:

white shoes
Sharpie fabric pens
pencil

Instructions:

Step 1: Use a pencil to draft your words or design on your shoes.

Step 2: Color, color, color. We kept it a classic black and white shoe, but make it as colorful as you want.

Step 3: Go spread some goodness.
