Poke the Rainbow Activity for Kids on St. Patrick’s Day

rainbow-st-pattys-day-pot-of-gold-clouds-kids

St. Patrick’s Day is a favorite among adults to raise a glass with Guinness or Jameson in hand. For kids, it’s all about the leprechaun, a colorful rainbow, wearing green and the gold. We made an easy, fun and non-candy Poke-the-Rainbow activity for kids on St. Patrick’s Day.

The rules of the game are simple. Each child takes a turn to pick one cup to poke through. Once the leprechaun is found, everyone can reach for the gold. The best part…everyone walks away with a treat. Who will be the first to poke the cup with the leprechaun?

Important side note: this game could be really fun and adult-friendly with each cup filled with a mini shot of Irish liquor. Cheers!

Materials:

  • plastic cups {white}
  • napkins in every color of the rainbow
  • pot and gold coins
  • white tissue paper
  • mini leprechaun or photo of leprechaun
  • non-candy gifts such as bead necklaces, buttons, bracelets
  • rubber bands
  • foam core board, white
  • hot glue gun and glue
  • stickers, shamrock cut-outs

Directions:

Randomly place the non-candy items in the cups. Pick one special cups for the leprechaun.

Once all the cups have colors, arrange in a rainbow-like pattern on a foam core board, and glue all of them in place. Glue the bottom of the cups so the top of the cup is facing outward.

DIY Emoji Valentine with Lemons

We use emoji’s to express our emotions on a daily basis, so it’s no surprise we decided to use emoji’s to express our feelings of love this Valentine’s Day.  It’s a cute, cheap and fun way to squeeze out a little extra love this Valentine’s Day, plus it makes for a great gift. We drink a cup of lemon water first thing in the morning, so to see a bowl full of little yellow, happy faces would be a lovely start to our day.

Materials:

 One-Step Directions {OMG, yay, one step}:

  1. Draw emoji faces on the lemons. We didn’t use any stencils – just free hand it, baby! We decided on all the ‘love-related’ faces…and went with the phrase, “Squeeze out a little extra love this Valentine’s Day!

New Year’s Eve Photobooth

NYE-backdrop-party-photo-booth-black-white-conversation-bubbles

As women, there are 5,000 things that go through our heads every minute, of every day. It’s exhausting. Most of the time, the thoughts are negative and full of judgement. How often do you wake up in the morning, and say to yourself, “Hello, gorgeous!” We know we seldom stand in front of the mirror and say, “Damn, I look good.” Instead, we say, “Ugh, I look so old.” “I have bags under my eyes.” “I’m getting fat.”

Well, in 2016, that’s going to change. At least we are going to try. If you haven’t tried, you haven’t lived. We made a fun, chalkboard NYE backdrop full of bubble conversations that we are going to tell ourselves everyday. We believe that what we tell ourselves eventually becomes a reality and changes our way of thinking, so let’s make it positive and uplifting.

Note: Our little shoot was mega rushed, which is the story of our lives, so it’s not as full of props and pretty as we would have liked. But, you get the idea. Make sure to buy a non-glare chalkboard backdrop so there’s no glare. We made the mistake. You’re welcome.

Joyful Holiday Photo Shoot

We just realized we never shared one of our first and favorite photo shoots on the blog. It’s a favorite because we were able to work with our friend and photographer, Meredith Moran Photography, and because amongst all the pretty red and white details, our children were running around in the background at our parents house. It was a lot of chaos, but also a lot of laughter, and if you can laugh in the midst of the chaos, that can be a good thing.

We hope you make the DIY peppermint tray this Christmas season and find the time experience pure joy, just like the marquee lights by Saddleshoe Designs reminds us to do.
